The Fences and Floors Mod adds 4 new styles of flooring and 4 fences (3 perimeter fences and a smaller defensive barrier). Fences are gathered into their own menu category and research requirements have been applied where appropriate.

Fences and Floors Mod features

Floors added by the Fences and Floors Mod:

  • Plywood Paneling. Available without additional research and relatively simple to construct.
  • Steel Gate Flooring. Available after completing the Machining research. Steel grating has an inherent bonus to cleanliness due to most dust and detritus falling cleanly through the grate.
  • Metal Panel Flooring. Available after completing the Machining research.
  • Sensor Panel Flooring. Constructable upon completing the new research project: Reactive Flooring. Sensor Panels include advanced electronics, sensors, and networking components within their design. They are expensive and difficult to construct but react to the presence of pedestrians moving overhead by optimizing their surface to the users stride resulting in a net increase in walking speed!

Fences added by the Fences and Floors Mod:

  • Wood Fence. Simple to build, the wood fence is available from the start. Can be fired through while providing a small amount of cover.
  • Chainlink Fence. Available after completing the Machining research. Can be fired through while providing a small amount of cover.
  • High Security Fence. Available after completing the Machining research.
  • Security Barrier. Available after completing the Machining research. It can be walked over (though with some difficulty), much like vanilla sandbags, but still provide good cover from incoming fire.
This mod is compatible with existing saves, it does not require you to start a new game.

Summary

The Fences and Floors Mod adds variety in the way you can build and shape your colony. Having fences around your base makes more sense than building walls. It’s also a nice way to structure the livestock areas. It’s worth mentioning though, that raiders will prioritize attacking the fences before anything else, leaving you with plenty of time to shoot them without being harmed, so that makes combat rather trivial.
